About Veuve Clicquot

History

Champagne Veuve Clicquot was established in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot. When Philippe's son, Francois, died in 1805, his wife Barbe Nicole Ponsardin was left a widow at the age of 27. Against all tradition, she took over the family business and built one of the greatest champagne houses in the world, making her one of the top businesswomen of modern times. In 1810, she renamed the house Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin and produced its first vintage wines. Veuve Clicquot is known internationally for its classically styled and full-bodied champagne. Products range from Brut Yellow Label to Veuve Clicquot Rosé and La Grande Dame, made exclusively from grapes harvested in the Grand Cru vineyards acquired by Madame Clicquot in the 19th century.

Veuve Clicquot and Polo

Veuve Clicquot began its long association with polo in England with the Veuve Clicquot Gold Cup and now in the United States with the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic. This stylish event began in New York City in 2008, marking the return of polo to Governors Island after nearly a 70 year lapse. In 2010, Veuve Clicquot brought the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic to Los Angeles for the first time, held at the Will Rogers State Historic Park. Veuve Clicquot has sponsored polo matches at renowned US polo clubs including the Greenwich Polo Club, International Polo Club in Wellington, Florida, and Santa Barbara Polo Club in California.
